Description

Tonka beans, the warm vanilla and almond note from Brazil

Tonka beans, also called cumaru beans, are the seeds of Dipteryx odorata, harvested in Brazil. The wrinkled black beans hide a smooth brown interior and release a sweet, warm scent that recalls vanilla, cloves and cinnamon, with almond and hay facets. Primegreen supplies whole tonka beans in bulk as a raw material for perfumery, cosmetics and flavor applications.

A traceable supply chain, from Brazilian producers to your lab

After harvest, the beans are cleaned, separated and dehydrated before shipment. You know where your tonka comes from and how it was handled, and you receive the documentation your sourcing and quality teams ask for: technical data sheet and certificate of analysis per lot.

Why perfumers and formulators choose tonka beans

The signature of tonka is coumarin, present at 2 to 3.5% in the whole beans, which gives the sweet hay, almond and vanilla character that perfumers use to round off gourmand compositions. Tonka pairs well with lavender, vanilla, sandalwood, cardamom, ambrette and citrus notes. The beans are used for tinctures, macerations and the production of tonka bean absolute, and in cosmetics for infused oils, butters and balms with a warm gourmand signature. Coumarin is a declarable fragrance allergen in the EU, so the usage level in the finished product should follow IFRA guidance and the cosmetic regulation.
