The buriti tree plays a role in maintaining biodiversity by providing habitat, food, and resources for a variety of wildlife species, including birds, insects, and mammals. The presence of the buriti palm contributes to the overall health and resilience of local ecosystems.

The Buriti palm tree is a tall and slender tree that can grow up to 35 meters and grows in the wetland It is known by several names, including aguaje, moriche palm, and ité palm. The buriti palm is highly valued for its fruit, which is cold pressed to produce the oil.

We ensure that the suppliers we work with are implementing responsible harvesting techniques (no deforestation), preserving ecosystems and supporting local initiatives that prioritize the long-term health of buriti palm populations. Communities that benefit from the buriti palm’s resources have a vested interest in conserving the palm and its surrounding habitat. This lead to increased efforts to protect local forests, prevent deforestation, and maintain the balance of the ecosystem.

Production process

The first step involves harvesting ripe Buriti fruits from the Buriti palm trees. The fruits are typically harvested when they are fully mature and have a vibrant reddish or orange color. The fruits are collected by climbing on top of the tree.
Once harvested, the outer scales and husk of the Buriti fruits are removed to reveal the inner pulp and seed. The pulp is separated from the seed, as the pulp is the one containing the oil.

Cold-pressing is used to extract Buriti oil. It involves pressing the pulp to release the oil without the use of heat. This helps retain the oil's natural properties and nutritional content.

The extracted oil is then filtered to remove any solid particles or impurities, resulting in a cleaner and clearer oil.
The filtered oil may be allowed to settle to further separate any remaining impurities that may have passed through the initial filtration.
