Ambrette seeds come from Abelmoschus moschatus, grown in Peru. Steam distilled, the seeds release a soft, warm and slightly sweet musky scent that perfumers have used for centuries as a plant based alternative to animal and synthetic musks. We work directly with the producers who grow and harvest the seeds in Peru. After harvest, each lot is inspected, cleaned of impurities and insects, and heat treated when necessary before shipment. You know where your ambrette comes from and how it was handled, and you receive the documentation your sourcing and sustainability teams ask for.

Why perfumers choose ambrette seeds

The seed oil contains ambrettolide, a macrocyclic musk lactone, together with farnesol and farnesyl acetate. The result is a natural musk with floral, slightly fruity and nutty facets that fixes a composition and rounds off the base notes. Ambrette blends well with rose, iris, sandalwood, tonka and citrus accords, and it is a favorite in clean and natural perfumery where synthetic musks are excluded.

Typical applications include extraction of ambrette seed oil or absolute, tinctures and macerations for natural perfumery, aromatic bases for fine and home fragrance, and botanical infusions for cosmetic oils.

Ambrette seeds are mainly a fragrance raw material. In cosmetics, a maceration or the seed oil can bring a soft natural musk note to body oils, balms and solid perfumes, replacing synthetic musks in natural and clean formulas.
